The Marlins have announce a four year deal worth $32M to keep Mike Lowell with the phish --- sorta. The deal is signed but has a major out clause. If the Marlins don't get approval for a new stadium then it becomes a two year deal with the second year actually an option left up to Lowell.

Kind of a clever deal in a way. It puts Lowell under contract without having to go to arbitration. The Marlins are only on the hook for two years if the stadium proposal fizzles.

Glad the Marlins signed him, and for pretty much the market price for 30 HR 100 RBI third basemen. That stadium clause is weird, though, but may put pressure on the Miami community.

good for them, though he's still not much of a name guy in most baseball circles

He's not much of a name guy, but he was the best 3B in the NL last year.

This gives the Marlins needed credibility.
