Yomiuri Giants star third baseman Akira Eto has been sued by a woman claiming he forced her into a sexual relationship she didn't want.
In a suit filed at the Miyazaki District Court, the woman is demanding Eto apologize and pay her 11 million yen in compensation for forcing her to have sex with him despite her protestations that she did not want to.
"He used the high position he has as a professional baseball player to do something illegal," a representative for the woman said. "Eto has a responsibility to restore the woman's credibility."
An acquaintance of the woman who learned of her experience with Eto was convicted for trying to blackmail the baseball team over the event by demanding the Giants hand over 10 million yen in exchange for keeping the incident under wraps.
"Judging by the Giants' strong stance in the case, it would seem hard for the woman to take legal action, but the desire for the restoration of respect in her as a human being is much stronger so she undertook legal action," the woman's lawyer said.
Eto's accuser says that on the night of Oct. 11, 2000, the baseball player forced her to drink more alcohol than she had wanted to and then demanded she have sex with him.
When she refused, Eto is accused of ignoring her and forcing her to become involved in a physical relationship.
