Davenport Translations, that is.

Clay Davenport has finished his 2003 update, as well as revisions to the player cards and the WARP ratings. The fielding ratings in particular have been redone, and since this is the basis of my own ranking system, I will be revising my own listings in the next few weeks as well.

Davenport is my favorite Baseball Prospectus "numbers guy" and I think his WARP ratings are better than Win Shares. They are harder to use, because they are only available online and not well linked. You can't sort like you can with the Sabermetric Baseball Encyclopedia.

The DT player cards are available as free BP content. The intro page is here: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/cards/. To see an example, the Barry Bonds page is here: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/cards/bondsba01.shtml

Shoot, I guessed this was a Danny Tartabull thread.

I also like the WARP measures better than win shares, for a variety of reasons that belong in another thread.

Perhaps Lee will include Win Shares in the SBE someday? ;)

not really on topic, but I saw that there is a book out now with win shares. Thought I saw it advertised in baseball america. I believe its a new bill james encyclopedia or annual type book.

DAvenport has recalculated the WARP numbers, mostly the fielding and some of the competition factors. I'm finding that older players have risen, while 1980s vintage have dropped.
