Not who will win it, but who should win it. Who has been the best player in college football this season?

I"d have to go with B.J.Symons of Texas Tech, who set a new Div 1-A record for passing yardage.
Not only did Symons beat the next-best passer by over 1000 yards, he was impressive against every single school he faced, including OK State, Texas (40 points, in a loss) and Oklahoma (25 points, in a loss).
Tech finished 7-5 because they have NO defense, but his "worst" game was against Iowa State, when Tech scored "only" 21 points. Oklahoma was the only other school to hold them to under 30 points.
Overall, Tech played the 16th-toughest schedule in the nation, according to Sagarin, and Symons STILL set the passing record.
Chris Perry would be a good runner-up, but Michigan played an easier schedule than Tech and he wasn't nearly as impressive as Symons.

Where's Eli Manning in the poll?
I voted Fitzgerald. Just the best player out there this year.

Chris Perry averaged 5 yards a carry in the big ten and found the end zone 17 times (+ 2 receiving). He set the school record for carries in a game with 51 and managed to average 4+ a carry in that game. The guy's a horse. And oh yeah, he put up 150 yards on the top rated run defense in the country, including 15 yards on the TD carry that put the game away.

By the "definition", I would say Fitzgerald of Pittsburgh, but I would guess that White of Oklahoma will actually win the award. Eli Manning might have had a good chance had Ole Miss actually beaten LSU this past Saturday.

Jason White. I think it's important to remember that this is an Oklahoma team that lost it's starting receivers, an 1800+ yard running back and a Tight End who is now in the NFL. I've seen him play every game and he's amazing, especially on the deep pass.

I voted for Eli Manning on ESPN.com in a poll like this...after Ohio State lost I honestly believe it's Chris Perry because he had a large part in that victory. I've not watched a lot of Michigan football, but I've heard an absolute ton about Chris Perry, and with his performance this year, he's leaving no doubt in my mind that he's Heisman worthy.
I could vote for Fitzgerald, but he'll just get a second from me. Big Ten bias I guess. :) I don't honestly pay attention to Pittsburgh that much...and the only time I hear about them or see them is when Larry is scoring. Plus, Michigan is a better team...so I'll give the better team's player a first place vote.

Sorry about this thread - I meant to only have one Heisman thread, and I didn't realize I'd done a second. I had some computer issues, and I assumed this one hadn't worked.
Please respond to the other one!

First, I'm glad no one mentioned Jason White!!
Second, I'll give Larry Fitzgerald the Heisman as soon as plays for a team who doesn't have Kent State, Ball State, Texas A&M, Rutgers, Syracuse, and Temple on its schedule.
Third, Symons did some fantastic things this year, but all is not as it seems. I'd say Symons' "worst" game was against Oklahoma: 25 points is nice, but 31 completions for only 230 yards? The biggest thing is the 5 interceptions...that earns him a D+ at best. He did the same thing (1 TD to 5 INTs) against Colorado. I don't buy the schedule strength thing either - not with a team that played "powerhouses" like SMU, New Mexico, Iowa St., Texas A&M, Colorado and Baylor. I have Tech with 5 truly good opponents: NC State, Ole Miss, OK State, Texas, OK; 5 patsies: SMU, New Mex, A&M, Iowa St, Baylor; and Mizzou and Colorado as mid-level.
Fourth, Chris Perry is awesome!! And, he came up huge in the biggest game of the season. The BCS has Michigan with the 35th strongest schedule...they definitely had a weaker than usual schedule, but no way 35th. 5 quality opponents: Iowa, Minn, Purdue, Mich St., Ohio St.; 4 patsies: CMU, Houston, Indiana, Illinois; 2 mid-level: Notre Dame, Northwestern. I'm definitely a conference snob, but I'd pit the Big Ten, top to bottom, against any conference in the country, possibly excepting the SEC. Big 12 next (though it's typically pretty weak). Pac-10? C'mon. ACC? Puhleeze! Big East...no way.

The Heisman Award is a farce.
Which is why I believe Craig phrased the title the way he did.
The Heisman Award is a farce.Of all the major individual sports awards - that is MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAAFB, and NCAABB - I give less credence to the Heisman than to any other.

Larry Fitzgerald
This one's not even close (and I don't even like Pittsburgh)
