Is he becoming Jamie Foxx' Willie Beamon?

He's just going through a tough time for injuries. Hopefully, it doesn't become chronic, but his lack of serious injury before this season gives me hope that he'll come back at full strength.
But I do think that the injury has been playing on him mentally. He's a guy who makes a living with his legs as much as his arm, and I get the feeling that he's really wondering if those legs will ever be the same. On the positive side, being somewhat limited may force him to become a better pocket quarterback. I just hope he can see it that way.
I don't even care if he misses this whole season - the Falcons are done, and he's got nothing to gain. He could come back next year with a big chip on his shoulder, ready to prove all the naysayers wrong. That's a better scenario than the alternative, the one where he becomes a "could have been."

The point I was trying to make - does what he's done so far equal the hype and buzz around him?

At this point, I'd have to say no. He had a great year last year, but it's tough to judge how much he carried the team, and how much help he got. I know they'd have a better record this year if he was healthy, but unless he plays defense, I don't think he'd be the answer.
I don't know if he could ever live up to the hype he's received. It's by no means his fault, but the media has hyped him to death. I think he has a chance to be the premier QB in the league, and undoubtedly the best running QB ever, but he's got a long way to go to prove it.

Vick hasn't anywhere lived up to the hype around, but then it would be impossible for anyone to do that. But the important thing is that he might live up to the hype in the end. Just take a look at John Elway's career as an example.

With Atlanta's season already down the toilet, they need to just let him wait and come back this season only if he thinks he is ready. Trying to force him back early this year does nothing for them and only makes him more unhappy. Since it's his first major injury, he's going to have to overcome the mental aspects of going thru that for the first time.
Based on what he did last season, he's done as much as anybody could realistically hope for, even with all of the hype, but he'll have to carry Atlanta to a Super Bowl actually live up to that hype.

I have no clue who Willie Beamon is...:)
Vick is worth the hype...he's Randall Cunningham version 2.0. Unfortunately, he inherited the same injury problems that 90's Randall had, and Vick got his injuries much earlier in his career. So it's hard to tell whether he's performed to where he's lived up to it.
One injury-riddled season does not a career make...nor does it not a reputation make (god, I sound like He Hate Me...;)). Wait until this time next year and it might end up being a good time.
