According to an article in today's NY Times, the Yankees are hoping to sign 2 out of Pettitte, Vazquez and Colon:

Apparently, Pettitte is their top priority. Assuming he re-ups with the Yanks, who's the better choice - Vazquez or Colon? I like Vazquez because of his age, and because I think he'd be a cheaper option, although that's not much of a concern in New York.

If NY thought Boomer Wells was fat, just wait until they see Colon naked.

Vasquez appears to have a much higher upside that Colon, but Colon has shown amazing durability.

I'd rather have Vazquez than either of the other two. While Colon has been an inning-eating (as well as other things) workhorse, his K/9IP has declined steadily. Vazquez has also been durable, with 4 straight 200+ IP seasons - plus, he has a better K/9 and K/BB than Colon. Finally, he's 4 years younger...

Vazquez (and for all I know all the players involved in the deal) hasn't passed his physical yet.
