Greetings from the Great Northwest. There were thousands of kids growing up in Portland, OR. during the 50’s and 60’s and it seemed they all played Little League. I was one of them.

We followed the Portland Beavers in those days and I watched some pretty good players come through like Luis Tiant, Sam McDowell, and Luis Marquez.

I became a Red Sox fan in my senior year of high school, the Fall of ’67. I have followed them ever since and I would have to say that Yaz is my favorite player although Clemente ranks right up there too. I made my first trip to Fenway Park this past June 10th and I don’t plan to wait another 53 years before I go again.

I still collect cards, SAM’s bobble heads, Hartland statues, pennants, board games, and assorted other memorabilia that I can’t live without. I joined SABR last year, but mostly to support them with a donation. I’m not a research sort of guy. I just like the game.

I look forward to reading and maybe even joining a discussion or two.

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

Caught the Fenway bug I see. I spend quite a bit of time there and here at NetShrine. It is time well spent. I look forward to your next post.

Hi Steve and wellcome. Thanks for your post in my introductory thread. Really a lot of years when your father was in Venezuela and I supposed you don't have live memories of your stay in Venezuela. That region is borderline with Colombia and is the only place in Venezuela with low weather due the main cities are around a the mountain (venezuelan's Andes).
I was studying by four months in Boston in 1999. Until that year I was a diehard yankee fan (mainly because Reggie was my chilhood's hero) but I was watching some games in Fenway that season, including Pedro's 300 K game against Toronto and Fenway have an special place in my baseball heart. I was impresioned to see how the people in that park lives the games: I saw oldladies keeping boxscores of Pedro's game and making deep comments of the plays in that game (something not common in Venezuela at least). Those are some of the best memories I have from that park. I agree with you, save Fenway.
kind regards from Caracas, Venezuela.
