Mike Piazza apparently doesn’t have a future with the New York Mets as a catcher. He could spend his remaining years with New York as a first baseman, or he might be traded to the Baltimore Orioles, ESPN.com reported.

The Mets should really consider this offer, if it is true.

I thought the O's gave up on overpaying for declining superstars a few years back. (Of course, Piazza could still thrive in the AL as a DH.)

The Mets should jump at this if it's real.

I think this happens. Keeps everyone happy. The Orioles need 2 good bats. Piazza wants to stay a catcher (the Orioles will let him half the time and DH the other half). Also allows Baltimore to keep Gibbons at 1b...I hope it happens (and its not a repeat of Albert Belle with Piazza getting hurt badly)

The thing that choked my chain in that article was Piazza's agent saying "WE haven't discussed" the possibility of Piazza performing in a non-catching role for a team. Discuss with the agent??? The agent works for you. Tell him what you are willing to do.
