Know any? Are you one?
Personally, I am the anti-metro. I've been told by many that it's comical that my non-work wardrobe consists solely of jeans, shorts, T-shirts and sweatshirts. I also cut my own hair - been doing it for nearly ten years - with an electric buzzer. Skin care? Soap, strong as possible, and water. For years, I used to use Lava soap on my face and body in the shower - until my wife made me stop.
Ever see those Miller "man" commercials? That's me.

I keep in shape, but that's the only thing on the list that I do. And even that's not to get in touch with my feminine side, but just to stay healthy.
If using botox and collagen is part of being a metro, then you can count me out. My vanity isn't quite that high, and I'd rather not inject a protein that's going to paralyze muscles just to make my skin look smoother.

I've seen this "Metrosexual" topic covered everywhere lately.
I must say that when I go to the spa (maybe once a year, if lucky!) many males are waiting for 'treatments'. Everything from eyebrow waxing, massages, men's facials, etc. I've even seen men getting manicures with a clear nailpolish topcoat. I'm not knocking their right to do so, it just seems like a surge in recent years.
I heard this: "Recent consumer statistics from ACNeilsen revealed that sales of men's hair-care products jumped 11.1% for the year 2002, with sales reaching $32 million."
$32 million! Wow.

Considering the number of men in the country, that's not surprising. I'd be curious to know what percentage of men spend over a certain amount per year on hair-care and beauty products.

Craig, I think Wt is being humorously sarcastic. Women easily spend 100 times that much if not more.

No metrosexual here. I do take care of my skin due to having psosarsis, but that's it. My friends are not metrosexuals either. Any of guys having the metro traits I encounter I usually assume they are gay. Of course with the high gay population in my area, I'd probably be safe in my assumption.

...between Steve and a Metro, probably. I keep my hair short[though it is grey now]watch what I eat, try to stay in shape. However, I use whatever shampoo is in the bathroom, though due to skin allergies, I have to be careful with soaps. I dont use cologne and have never been to a spa, though dressing neatly is not a bad thing, though my wardrobe is mostly sweaters, tshirsts, chinos, sneakers or sandals and caps[in the summer]

I have that "rumpled professor" look...which, oddly enough, is what I am.

I found it! I think the rule is, if you say yes to 20 of these, you are a Metro. Not sure. The site that runs the quiz is down.
Do you live in an urban area?
Do you pride yourself on going to the best boutiques and shops?
Do you use a stylist or barber?
How often do you work out at the gym?
Has anyone called you gay?
Has anyone ever called you materialistic?
Have you plucked or waxed your eyebrows?
Have you ever received a manicure?
Pedicure?
Do you think you face is a canvas, and a razor a paintbrush?
Do you think modeling is fake?
Do you regularly read GQ or Esquire?
Do you like Banana Republic clothing?
When you order speciality coffee, does the clerk give a mean face because
it's so complicated?
When you go out, do you often check out what other guys are wearing?
Do you sometimes get jealous when another guy has a nice outfit on?

Do you believe today's straight man is really the gay man of the 80s?

I read Esquire and run every day - with those as my only qualifications, I guess I don't make the cut.
These don't make sense. I only read the top and bottom few but ...
- use a stylist or barber? I assume most guys would say yes, but my barber would cut off my ear if I called him a metrosexual.
- leave home without hair gel? wouldnt a metro say no to this, not yes?

They aren't even all yes or no questions.

This whole metrosexual thing is ridiculous, it seems like just the 21st century way of calling someone preppy.
The terms homosexual, and heterosexual are definitions of one's sexual identity, not a their sense of style and fashion. Whomever coined the phrase metrosexual was just flat out stereotyping They assume that all gay men have a strong interest in fashion and style, and that all straight men don't. Therefore a straight man who does must be a some new category, a metrosexual
I know gay men who have no interest in grooming or style (and whose hygiene and dress resembles what Steve described in the first post) are they ruralsexuals?
