1) According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, "[Marlins owner John] Henry finalized an agreement last week to sell the Marlins for around $150 million, and sources said Sunday that Montreal Expos owner Jeffrey Loria is the buyer. Indications are that Major League Baseball is taking over the Expos from Loria and will basically oversee that franchise until it is folded or sold again."
Meanwhile, the paper reports Cliff Floyd is likely to be traded, possibly for a replacement for SS Alex Gonzalez, and the team will listen to trade offers for P Ryan Dempster.
2) According to the Boston Globe, the Yankees are interested in free agent P Hideo Nomo.
3) According to the New York Post, the Yankees hope they will have an answer from free agent 1B Jason Giambi by Wednesday.
Meanwhile, "If Giambi, who will be 31 in January, stays with the A's, the Yankees will concentrate on acquiring Roberto Alomar from the Indians or Gary Sheffield from the Dodgers. They are also interested in free-agent outfielders Kenny Lofton and Roger Cedeno.
"Getting Alomar is also a possibility even if Giambi is a Yankee."
The Newark Star Ledger reports the Yankees "will continue discussions with the agents for outfielder Roger Cedeno as well as pitchers John Smoltz and Sterling Hitchcock, in addition to other free agents. And if Giambi turns them down, they plan to pursue Moises Alou and Johnny Damon and try to trade for players such as Darin Erstad, Cliff Floyd or Gary Sheffield."
