1) According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, Marlins owner John Henry has made a deal to sell the team to an undisclosed buyer, who would keep the team in South Florida, for approximately $150 million. According to the report, the buyers financial records have already been approved by MLB.

According to Miami Herald, top MLB executives say they have no knowledge of a pending deal.

Of course, ignorance and MLB executives are redundant terms.

2) The Cardinals signed INFs Mike Coolbaugh and Chris Snopek, OF Ernie Young, C B.J. Waszgis and Ps Radhames Dykhoff, Gabe Molina, Travis Smith to minor league contracts.

3) The Redsox signed Ps Butch Henry and Tim Young to minor league contracts.

Henry hasn't pitched in the majors since 1999. He has a 3.83 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.07, and 24 RSAA in 148 major league games (91 starts).

Young has 18 games of major league experience, with the 1998 Expos and 2000 Redsox, with a 6.23 ERA, compared to his league average of 4.60, and -2 RSAA.

4) The Boston Herald reports the Redsox have made an offer to free agent OF Damon Buford, while he's considering an offer from the Astros.

5) The Devil Rays signed C Kevin Brown to a minor league contract.

Brown played 17 games with the Brewers in 2001, with a .796 OPS and -1 RCAA. He has a .765 career OPS, compared to his league average of .778 and C average of .713, -1 RCAA and 7 RCAP in 214 career PA, spread out since 1996.

6) The Brewers signed P Andrew Lorraine to a minor league contract.

Lorraine's pitched for 6 teams, from 1994-2000, with a 6.20 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.64, and -27 RSAA in 54 career games (25 starts).

7) The Dodgers released SS Kevin Stocker, who was in their minor league system.

8) The Reds signed P Willie Martinez.

Martinez was once a highly regarded Indians prospect, before his stock fell considerably. He had a 5.61 ERA in AAA in 2001 and has 1 game of major league experience, with the 2000 Indians.

9) Diamondbacks P Robert Ellis refused the team's assignment to the minors and became a free agent.

Ellis had a 5.77 ERA and -12 RSAA in 19 games (17 starts) as a 30 year old rookie in 2001. He also had 3 games of experience with the 1996 Angels.

10) The Diamondbacks released P Geraldo Guzman.

Guzman spent most of 2001 in the minors, and also had elbow surgery. He was limited to just 4 relief appearances in the majors, this year, and has a 5.04 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.60, and -2 RSAA in 17 games (10 starts) with the 2000-01 Diamondbacks.
