Assuming Robbie Alomar puts up five more solid seasons, and avoids spitting on anyone else, most would agree that he would be a good candidate for Cooperstown.

It's interesting that, as of this year, he would have had played for four franchises (with at least 3 years at each stop) by the age of 33. Has anyone in Cooperstown matched (or exceeded) such a pattern - migration, yet some intermittent permanence, by such a young age?

Some suggested to me that Rogers Hornsby, George Kell, or Joe "Iron Man" McGinnity could be good matches.

However, in my humble opinion, they still fall short of matching Robbie's 3-5-3-3 Star pattern.

Hornsby was with St. Louis for a decade, then went 1-1-1 with the Giants-Braves-Cubs up to age 33.

McGinnity went 1-1-2-7 with Baltimore (NL), Brooklyn, Baltimore (AL) and then the Giants.

Kell, through age 31, looked almost like Alomar, with the A's (2 years), Tigers (6 years) and then Boston (3 years). But, he only really "starred" with Detroit - whereas Robbie was an All-Star at each stop.

One that I did find was Rusty Staub who went 6-3-4-2 by the time he was 33 with Houston, Montreal, Mets, and Detroit.

Later, Edd Roush, Bill McKechnie, and Dan McGann were suggested to me. But, they really weren't good matches.

Researching it further, I found:

Rowdy Richard Bartell
basically did a 3-4-4-1-1 by the time he was 33. (And was a pretty good player during most of those years - but, no Alomar.)

Dave Cash did a (somewhat) 4-3-3-1 by 32 - - but was done by 32 whereas Alomar is still starring.

Recently, someone suggested Fergie Jenkins.

But, Fergie had a 7 year run with the Cubs - Alomar hasn't come close to that yet.

Brett Butler may be a closer match - 3-4-3-4 - - but did it through ages 24 to 37 (not 33 like Alomar)."

Anyone come to mind to you?

Wish I could add something intelligent to this thread, but I've only been a baseball fan for 6 years. Anything earlier than that pretty much doesn't exist for me. :(

Shel - you probably know more from those years than others have learned in 5 times that. Go sit in the park and listen. Many confess to know a lot - but, few really do.

Don't sell yourself short. :D
