1) According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution and NY Newsday, the Yankees are interested in John Smoltz, who is about to become a free agent.
According to the Atlanta paper, "The Braves told Smoltz before the season was over they wanted to re-sign him as their closer, but Smoltz was not yet convinced that was the role he wanted to keep in the future."
2) According to the NY Daily News, the Yankees are interested in Jason Isringhausen and Steve Karsay. However, they would be interested in signing Isringhausen as a setup man and there are probably going to be teams who will give him closer money. Meanwhile, there are rumors that the Yankees are also interested in bringing back David Weathers.
3) According to the St. Petersburg Times, "Randy Winn and Ben Grieve reportedly have drawn interest from a few teams."
4) According to the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs are interested in Reds 2B Pokey Reese, who the team would like to trade. But, Reds GM Jim Bowden is asking for pitching prospect Juan Cruz, which the Cubs consider to be too big of a price tag.
