The Midsummer Classic - The Complete History of Baseball's All-Star Game

by Vincent, Spatz, and Smith

- - - everything you ever wanted to know is in here. I just broke it open, landed on the '79 game, and was flooded with memories - - Parker's throws, Mazzilli's HR. Templeton's "If I ain't startin', I ain't departin'."

Not only does it big back everything on every game - - to the smallest detail; but, it has some incredible lists as well. Like players who replaced players........for example:

Who was picked for the NL squad in 1978 to replace Johnny Bench? Answer: Biff Pocoroba. Think ol' Biff has told that story a few times?

I've always liked Biff Pocoroba's name.

I was looking for a good reference book about the All-Star game. This one looks good: The Midsummer Classic: The Complete History of Baseball's All-Star Game
(http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0803292732/qid=1061765230/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/103-7633741-3951018?v=glance&s=books). I see that Sean Foreman reccomends it. Any thoughts?
