Report: Orioles to trade or release Anderson
ESPN.com news services
Center fielder Brady Anderson will not be returning to the Baltimore Orioles next season, according to a newspaper report.
Vice president of baseball operations Syd Thrift told The Baltimore Sun on Wednesday that barring a trade, the Orioles intend to release Anderson before finalizing their 40-man roster on Nov. 20.
The Orioles reportedly are talking with at least one club about a possible deal and would be willing to assume a portion of Anderson's $4 million salary for next season to facillitate a trade.
Anderson, 37, set a franchise record with 50 home runs in 1996. Last season, he struggled to a .202 average with eight home runs and 45 RBI.
