Jimmy Gobble was called up by the Royals to start in place of injured Jose Lima, and turned in an excellent performance in his first MLB game.

Gobble who is only 22 has been one of the few guys in the KC farm system that they Royals' Brass has been able to taut as a future savior. They only brought him up out of necessity.
Joe Sheehan in his last two articles at BP has espoused the idea that the Royals were stupid not to have traded Gobble or Affeldt so they would have a better chance this year of winning the division. I think he is nuts to propose such a short sighted idea. Lose a possible fine future pitcher for the opportunity to get smoked in the first round of the playoffs?
Its been wonderful in KC this season but none of us here are smoking the kind of stuff that makes us think we are one player away from seriously competing with the Yanks, Sox, Mariners, or A's in the port-season.

His first Yankee Stadium start today was one that he'd probably like to forget.
