The Rangers got Adrian Gonzalez, who was given an A- grade by John Sickels, Will Smith, who got a B, and Ryan Snare, who got a B-.

Other than annoying Steinbrenner since he didn't get Urbina, this move doesn't seem that significant to me. Urbina's ok, but not that great.

Urbina won't get the Marlins to a wildcard, and they gave away three pretty good prospects, especially Gonzalez. This will go down as one of the worst trades in history.

yeah, Teixeira is... but Blalock/Teixeira/Gonzalez at 3B/1B/DH is even better once Mr. Viagra is gone

The scary thing is, Gammons says the Mets turned down the same package for Armando Benitez. What WERE they thinking?

The scary thing is, Gammons says the Mets turned down the same package for Armando Benitez. What WERE they thinking?

According to Gammons, "The Marlins turned to the Urbina deal when the Mets wouldn't trade them Armando Benitez for Snare, Gonzalez and another prospect. New York wanted first baseman Jason Stokes or right-hander Denny Bautista, whom the Phish wouldn't surrender."

The Mets could have been thinking the Marlins would pay the possibly higher price. Maybe they didn't know how close the Marlins were to making a deal with the Rangers and thought they had more time to come down on their demands.
