Has there ever been a situation in which a player was voted to the All-Star Game and, prior to the game, was traded to a team in the other league?
If so, what happened - did he still play for his original league or was he replaced? If not, what would happen?

This happened in the NHL this past year...Sandis Ozolinsh was selected as a Florida Panthers representative, and after he was picked he became a Mighty Duck...but he still played for the Eastern Conference.
I know you did ask about baseball though, so I can just say that I'm not sure if there's precedent. I would figure that they'd name a replacement if something like that did happen. The National League would probably not have a guy with great AL numbers on the squad and vice versa...
Then again, if you can prove me wrong, more power to ya. :)

I can't recall any case of that happening....perhaps largely because interleague in-season trades usually require waivers, and all-stars rarely would pass through to the other league on waivers.

This rings a bell to me - - maybe I'm thinking of a guy that was traded within his league after being picked for the game?
Maybe I'm thinking of Bartolo Colon last year?
He was traded 6/27/02 - pretty sure that was the date - and, based on his AL stats, 10-4 in 16 starts, he should have been an AL All-Star...............
........but, that's pitchers and it's a whole different deal. And, the trade was before the ASG game players were picked.

That's right: there was talk about Colon being picked for the NL, but he wasn't.

Jeff Shaw was named to the team as a member of the Reds right before he was traded to the Dodgers.

You're right. BUt, that might have been the example of the traded player that Steve thought of.

It's my memory that when Shaw was traded, it was believed that he was the first player to be traded after being named to the some star game.
I did a google search last night on "jeff shaw" "all star game" traded in order to see if I could find any contemporary articles that mentioned other precedents and none of the links provided me with any.
