Every time Gagne takes the mound in LA, there's a huge screen on the wall that flashes:
GAME OVER!
Is this just LA arrogance or what? I realize he's almost automatic, but isn't this just asking for trouble?

I got a laugh out of that. It will certainly come back to haunt them someday.
Remember the '97 WS? When Mesa went to the mound, I was thinking the same thing: GAME OVER.

I am surprised that he would not request them not to do that.

I had a thought that you meant, GAME OVER, WE LOSE when Joe Table took the mound.
I don't have a problem with that - he's delivered the goods.

That's exactly what I meant concerning the last half of the '97 season and the WS.

If there were any fans in the park at the time it may make a difference. :)
Seriously, teams have started trying to pump up the crowd for closing situtations. I think the Padres started this trend for Hoffman when they started playing "Hells Bells" before he would start an inning. The Giants would do this sort thing too for Nen. First they would play "Enter Sandman" at Candlestick, and then it changed to "Smoke on the Water" when they moved into Pacbell. Just more gamemanship for the fans. I bet the pitchers don't even notice.

They play Enter Sandman for Mo Rivera too.
I have a friend that knows Mo well - so, I asked her once: "Is he into Metallica?" She laughed and said that he has no idea what the song is, or who performs it, it was the Yankees that started playing it.

Can't we all blame Charlie Sheen from "Major League" for the Closer/Music issue? Sox should have Queen "Another one bites the dust" play - in obvious reference to yet another of the cLOSER by commitee options biting the dust.
