Since we have so many Yankee and Red Sox fans in the NDF, I thought I would share the above link and talk about "For Yankee Fans Only" and "For Red Sox Fans Only".

I have been reading "For Yankee Fans Only" and am having a blast with it. :thumb: :thumb: For a Yankee fan, this book is like "This Is You Life!"

If you enjoy fans telling stories about being fans, this book is a must - and I imagine that the Red Sox book is great too.

Really, you don't even need to be a Yankee fan or a Red Sox fan to enjoy either of these books. Any baseball fan can appreciate some of the things that these fans are sharing. Some funny stories, some touching, others just flat out cool.

If you're a diehard fan, you'll read these books and see yourself. I know that I do.

These are books from the point of view from the fan. Very unique.

Let me know if you have any questions on these - - and, I see if I can get the co-author of the Yankee book to make a post here too.

I do have a little complaint about the Yankees book. Steve, you deserved a full chapter. I've got a really good other online friend who got one and you should have also gotten one.

Other than that complaint, I'll also recommend it.

:loud: Lee. Thanks. Maybe in Volume II? :D

Actually, whatever I got was fine - 'tho, for the record, in one part, I was misquoted.

On page 213, it reads (in my quote):

"The Yankees have had so many retired numbers that you can go into the 1950's and still come up with names to fit the numbers."

This should be:

"The Yankees have had so many retired numbers that you can go into the 50's and still come up with names to fit the numbers."

Also, on page 214, same quote, it reads:

"The last prominent one before Coleman was Jim Deshaies."

That should read:

"The last prominent one before Coleman was Jim Leyritz."

But, again, as someone who has nightmares over proof reading goofs, I have no issues. None whatsoever. It was just cool to part of the book.

Hi All Yankee Fans, especially to a Number One Fan, your moderator, Steve. You have been so gracious and enthusiastic in response to the release of my book with Rich Wolfe, For Yankee Fans Only. The book is part of a series of fan books; For Red Sox Fans Only (I know, I know, you hate their whining, but you even have good friends who are Sox fans) is also in stores now; For Mets Fans Only has yet to be released, which may be a good thing considering their misfortune so far this season. Steve definitely deserved his own chapter, as did all the fab people I interviewed. Even the Bible had to come to an end at some point. The editing process is always difficult when the material is great, and boy oh boy, Yankee fans have such great stories and such a great way of telling them. I have my own favorites: the guy who when he was a child attending Catholic school, put gum on his shoe so he could steal Mickey Mantle cards by stepping on them as they were being traded; the Dad who hid a fly ball that did not go foul under his son's rear and when the policeman asked why the kid was squirming, the dad said, "Hemorroids." Of course, the kid didn't know then what they were. Oh, I could go on and on. What was so great about this project is that fandom resonates so deeply with people who love baseball. It touches all aspects of their lives. I am the lucky one who was able to elicit those memories, and in so doing, I have made many, many dear friends.

I guess I have to wait for "For Orioles Fans Only."

In reality, I'd be interested in the Red Sox and Yankees books, just because they are divisional rivals...

Pat Hogan, so nice to hear your cybervoice. Your hysterically funny story about bringing your seven-year old son Sean to Fenway Park and him mistaking the urinals for sinks is in the Red Sox book, although you are definitely an original METS fan. Poor Mets; its's so frustrating. Where is Jesse Orozco when we need him? Hope you're well. Regards, Rhonda

Rhonda, how long until "For Cubs Fans Only?" ;)

Seriously, although I'm a lifelong Cubs fan, I appreciate the strong attachments people have to other teams. (Actually, Cubs fans probably appreciate the role that sentiment and tradition play in people's forming attachments to teams - there is no such thing as a fair-weather Cubs fan - or Red Sox fan, for that matter.)

I was lucky enough to attend the Clemens-Wood game a couple weeks ago when the Yankees were at Wrigley Field, and I sat next to a guy from New York. It was great to hear the perspective of a real baseball fan who wasn't also a raving Cubs fan. I've gained a new respect for the Yankees fans to go with my real, though grudging, respect for the Yankees themselves.
