1) There were 104 players file for free agency yesterday, including Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi, Juan Gonzalez, Moises Alou, Chan Ho Park and John Smoltz.

I'll have a full list of free agents once they hit the open market. Or, in case of a lockout, I'll have the list whenever it ends, whether it's this winter, this spring or after what would have been the 2002 season.

2) The Indians re-signed P Bob Wickman, who would have become a free agent, to a 3 year, $15.9 million contract, with a team option for 2005.

Wickman had a 2.39 ERA and 16 RSAA in 2001, which was his 2nd consecutive year with a double digit RSAA. He has a 3.65 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.55, and 77 RSAA.

With Wickman re-signed, the Indians are rumored to be interested in either trading John Rocker or non tendering him.

3) The Tigers named Dave Dombrowski as their new President and gave him a 5 year contract.

4) The Cubs moved Sandy Alomar Sr. from bullpen coach to 1B coach and named Rick Kranitz as the new bullpen coach.

5) The Padres re-signed 2B Damian Jackson to a 1 year, $625,000 contract.

Jackson, who was eligible for arbitration, hit .343 SLG, .316 OBA, .660 OPS in 122 games in 2001. Jackson has a .692 career OPS, compared to his league average of .789 and positional average of .715, -27 RCAA and 14 RCAP. He's had a negative RCAA in each of his 3 years as a starter. Jackson was 6 PA short of qualifying for the leader list this year, but if he qualified, he would have been 4th in the league in worst OPS.

6) The Astros hired Gene Lamont as 3B coach.

7) The Whitesox declined the 2002 options on Ps David Wells, Cal Eldred and Alan Embree.

The New York seems to think it's a certainty that Wells is returning to the Yankees.

Eldred was limited to 2 starts in 2001, due to an elbow problem, and there is speculation that his career is over.

8) According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, "The Dodgers have approached the Braves to re-open the subject of a trade involving Gary Sheffield, though the clubs haven't exchanged specific scenarios."

9) The Orioles signed C Mike Hubbard to a minor league contract.

Hubbard, who played in 5 games for the Rangers this year, has a .426 career OPS and -23 RCAA in 103 career games (198 PA) spread out since 1995.
