Okay, so, I'm making a rather large assumption here, but it seems safe, IMO. The Kim-Hillenbrand deal has all the makings of setting the ball in motion. Onto 2004 or even 2005 for the D-Backs.
Will we see a sell-off/trade-off in the next couple months? Besides Schilling, is there anyone they can move?

I think they're happy with the fill-in starters that they called up thus far. With Johnson and Schilling, they may still try to make a run. No fire sale this year, I believe.

I think a fire sale would be difficult considering that most of their high-salaried are dead weight, or at least guys whose salaries will scare off most teams. Does anybody want Matt Williams for $10 million, or guys like Finley and Womack?
I think they'll just have to suck it up and get rid of what they can. Most of that junk is probably staying in the desert.

If the Padres were not moving into brand new PETCO next year I think they would try to move some players. But I doubt they will....don't want to upset the fans going into next year.

The DBacks have money issues. They needed to move Kim, and Hillenbrand will be cheap for years to come.
Now, if they think they can contend next year, they should hold Schilling, but I expect him to move too..
They'll have time to concede after evaluating Unit when he comes back. If he's not good enough, they may bail, but I think this is more a case of a small salary dump wrapped in a not-too-good-trade.

This is not a dump: the d-backs expect Shea to help plug the holes in the lineup and help them hold on until the Unit comes back.
No, really, they do. Honest!

Hillenbrand left the game today with a strained oblique muscle.
Guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out the prognosis.
