1) Yesterday's game--

Diamondbacks 15, Yankees 2 (series tied, 3-3)

2) Today's game--

Yankees (Roger Clemens) at Diamondbacks (Curt Schilling)

3) The Diamondbacks set a World Series record with 22 hits, breaking the mark of 20, set by the Giants, in Game 3 in 1921, and Cardinals, Game 4 in 1946.

4) Matt Williams became the 1st player to hit 2 doubles in an inning in the World Series, doing it in the 3rd.

5) Yankees P Jay Witasick set the World Series records for most runs allowed by a reliever (9), earned runs allowed in a game (8), most ER in an inning (8 in the 3rd) and most hits allowed in an inning (8, in the 3rd).

6) Diamondbacks P Randy Johnson became the 1st pitcher to score 2 runs in a World Series game since Bob Gibson, in Game 4 in 1968.

7) The Diamondbacks's 15-0 lead after the 5th tied the World Series record for the largest lead at any time in a World Series game. In Game 2 in 1960, the Yankees led 16-1, going to the bottom of the 9th, en route to 16-3 win.

8) Redsox P Pedro Martinez says, "I don't want gossip, nor the small wars of the past season. There will be some changes in Boston or there won't be Pedro Martinez. I want to win and everyone knows it. We have a team with the quality to win, but we were affected by injuries and some other things, which I expect will disappear."

9) Tonight's Clemens-Schilling matchup is really the 5th time 20+ game winners have met in Game 7 of the World Series, but it's sort of the 6th.

In 1912, Game 2 was a 6-6 tie, so the series lasted 8 games. So, if we pretend that Game 8 was Game 7, that would become the 6th such instance. But, it takes no pretending to call that one a winner take all game.

While neither Clemens nor Schilling has been the best pitcher on their staff this year, they've both received the most hype. I don't have a chart for how many times both Game 7 pitchers fit that description.

10) According to the Boston Globe, "New Rangers GM John Hart, who assured Jerry Narron he will remain as manager, said he doesn't expect to pursue Juan Gonzalez, who won two MVPs with the Rangers before being traded to Detroit two years ago. Gonzalez played for Hart's Indians this year and had a terrific season. 'Juan did a great job,' Hart told reporters. 'But I don't think he will be a fit here.' ... If Mark McGwire retires, as even his manager, Tony La Russa, expects, count the Cardinals among the teams likely to take a run at free agent first baseman Jason Giambi."

11) According to NY Newsday, "The Dodgers will be listening to trade offers for Gary Sheffield and plan to talk to the Yankees and Mets regarding the star outfielder."
