Astronomers tell us a total lunar eclipse occurs this evening:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=624&ncid=624&e=1&u=/ap/20030515/ap_on_sc/brf_lunar_eclipse

Get out and have a look, especially if you've never seen one of this before - they aren't quite as freaky (or as rare) as solar eclipses, but they're still a whole lot of fun. This one will be a good one, with a relatively long totality period and visible over the whole continental U.S.

The partial eclipse begins around 10:00 EDT, and totality begins a little over an hour later. Enjoy!

The eclipse will begin at 11:13 p.m. EDT, with the height of the phenomenon at 11:40 p.m.

:( That's too late for me.

But that's wrong. The partial eclipse begins much earlier. You might not get to see totality, but you should at least take a peek at the partial if you can.

Of course, I am the sort of person who will get out of bed at 3:30 am and drive for an hour into the country so I can get a good look at a meteor shower. For me, a lunar eclipse is worth staying up a little late for.

Are you crazy??? Miss a single moment of the breath-taking, spine-tingling, edge-of-your-seat season-ending episode of ER just to watch the moon disappear??? It'll come right back after all... :D

Lunar eclipses are neat but after you've seen fifty or so they kind of lose their appeal.

Yup, not such a great show in New England. :( I was especially bummed because we just moved to a place with a roof deck and I was really pumped to sit up there drink in hand and watch Nature do her thang.

I guess I have to wait for the Perseids.

I had a great view of this from my seat at the Giants game. I actually didn't notice this until they put a shot up on the Diamond Vision. I looked over at it was hanging right over the bay. Beautiful.

Got to watch it from a swimming pool at a "bed and breakfast" in Key West. Pretty cool sight.
