Will the Randy Johnson, the NetShrine 2001 Pitcher of the Year, "rise" to the occasion on Saturday's sudden death game (for the D-backs), or, will pitching from the deep end of the pool cause significant shrinkage for the Big Unit?

Oh man. Talk about gratuitous use of double entendres.

I honestly think Johnson will dominate, and force a Game 7. But - Pettitte could match him, and it could end up yet another battle of the bullpens.

I am with Duque on this. I believe there will be a Game 7 based on RJ alone. If I've learned anything, though, over the last two nights, is that the D'Backs need more than a two-run lead in the 9th. Having said that, Duque is again correct in that if Andy can keep it close, the bullpens could be the difference.

Ditto, Andy...

And just a dumb prediction -- look for one of the Yankee lefties to have a big hit...I heard them saying on the FAN this morning that it looks like O'Neill and Tino may be in the lineup...and when Valentine's Mets beat Johnson, he left the lefties in and Ventura had a few big hits against him...

it's O'Neill's turn to make some special magic, and if the Yankees win, it would be his last game -- I'd say the stage is set for some more drama, huh?

In the '99 NLDS, the Mets faced RJ only once and the big blow was Alfonzo's grand slam in the 9th. Alfonzo had 2 HR in the game. Olerud did hit an HR off him earlier in the game and was the first LH to do so in over a year.

They've owned him and his inability to beat them has been a curiosity for me. What types of players or hitters, hits have beaten him this year and last?

Unit is rested. If he's smart, he took a flight back home on Thursday before the game, just to rest and remove any jet lag. As far as hitters, Justice didn't do anything against him or anyone else much, but did make a few key plays. I see Paulie in RF, Shane in LF and Chuckie as DH. I feel that's the Yanks' best chance against him.

It also depends heavily to me on how many innings Randy goes, since Kim is serving up meatballs on a hot platter to go. :loud: If Randy goes 7+ and Kim "closes" then I think you can predict who will win. If Randy goes 8+ (but not 9) and someone other than BK closes it out, especially with a 2 run Snakeskin lead, there looks like a probably game 7. I must add the biggest uncertainty factor, which is what a non-Yank fan gave me.

Q: They asked how do you beat the Yanks?

A: Eliminate the 9th inning.

Hmm, dang FAN gets something wrong -- surprise surprise!! :D Thanks for clearing that up Buzz...

By the way, I think the thing most in our favor tonight is that Buzz has switched his avatar to Randy Johnson! Anyone notice how Gonzo was doing when Buzz was sporting his avatar for the past few days? :D Let's hope the avatar switch doesn't ignite Gonzo though...

I was not tooting the Mets horn, just pointing out it was the RH who got to him more so than the LH.
