View Full Version : Thanks To VH-1 Classic, Relive the WORST Videos

While flipping around the tube the other night, I landed on VH-1 Classic, where I saw what I think is one of the worst videos ever.

"Trashed" by Black Sabbath - it didn't get much airplay as it was before Sabbath was retro-cool and it was the unfortunate era where Ian Gillan (ex-Deep Purple) was lead singer. In the video, Bev Bevan (yes, the ELO drummer!) was the drummer.

Horrid is the only way to describe it.

I think this takes the spot of "Rock Me Tonight" by Billy Squier, where my wife (who is usually PC) says, "He looks so GAY in that..." (Not that we care if Billy is or isn't, but some people can pull off the "Just Jack" Will and Grace deal, and some...well....)

I hardly watch VH1 anymore (but I can happily say that the first time I happened by it this year I ran into Johnny Cash's Hurt). Unfortunately, my luck ran out last night. I ran into Ah-Ha's Take on Me, which, admittedly, was a video I enjoyed way back when. However, if you close your eyes, it's just another bad '80s tune.

It's got a good beat, you can dance to it, I'll give it a 75.

As a big fan of 80s music good and bad, I'll often catch their "We are the 80s". That and MTV 2's "Back in Play" are the only shows I'll watch on the music stations.

They both beat the hell out of Real World/Road Rules Challenge and Sorority Life.

The only part of MTV or VH-1 that I really am interested in is Pop-Up Video. I grew up during the original popularization of the music video, but never really cared for the genre.

I am the queen of bad 80's music. :thumb: 'Rock Me', I still think he looks cute......but my hair was better!:p

For sheer number of bad music videos, it's hard to beat the average episode of Beavis & Butthead. They must have searched long and hard to find some of the really bad ones.

Huhhuh huhhuh ... he said long and hard ... huhhuh huhhuh.

Anything by Pat Benatar.

When Pat does that super fierce/serious face thing along with the shoulder shake/shimmy move/thing, but there's nothing there moving, I just lose it.

However, I've heard folks say that it is groundbreaking by making it cool for rockers to dance (again).

They played Helix's "Deep Cuts the Knife" a few days ago, and I was shocked to realize I still knew all the words. And where else are you going to see videos from Bread and Krokus in the same day?

You rule, VH-1 Classic!

Bread...eesh.
Maybe I'm-a want you
Maybe I'm-a need you...

They don't write 'em like that anymore.

And that's probably a good thing.

There are a lot of "eesh"-worthy videos out there.

err....
That's "Baby I'm-a want you."

Just to be picky.

Even counting stupid lyrics, I'd rather listen to David Gates sing than a bunch of other people scream at me, as I find on many records and videos.

Oh yeah. Baby.
Oops.
David Gates, by the way, has a band now and is doing shows.
Bring the no-doz.

Baby, baby, baby baby oh baby.

A classic of rock/pop lyrics.

Hey now - I kinda like Bread - the faster ones - more James Griffin / Robb Royer.

But I do admit, any video of them...ick...
